Advanced Arrangement

Analyze, arrange, and compose sophisticated music tailored for diverse church ensembles, orchestras, and bands.

Music Pedagogy

Apply advanced pedagogical methods to teach, direct, and elevate the musical abilities of church volunteers and staff.

Pastoral Leadership

Demonstrate spiritual leadership and pastoral care within a church music ministry context.

Academic Research

Conduct graduate-level research in musicology or theology, culminating in academic writing and program notes.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted into the Master of Church Music program at Washington Jabez University, Applicants must meet the following spiritual and academic standards to be considered for admission.

Spiritual Qualifications

  • Personal experience of regeneration and water baptism.
  • Confirmed sense of calling to Christian ministry and music.
  • Active involvement in a local church or Christian community.

Academic Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited or otherwise recognized institution.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Sufficient musical preparation for graduate-level study.
  • Successful completion of a personal interview.
  • Successful completion of an audition appropriate to the intended concentration.

Application Materials

  • Application form & Non-refundable application fee.
  • Official academic transcripts and proof of bachelor’s degree completion.
  • Personal Essay detailing spiritual journey and ministry vision.
  • Two Letters of Recommendation (academic & ministry).
  • One recent digital photograph.
  • A valid government-issued photo identification document
  • Passport and applicable immigration or residency documents(for Residents Outside the United States).
  • Required personal interview.
  • Audition or audition recording appropriate to the intended concentration.

Placement Assessment and Prerequisite Courses

  • Applicants who hold a bachelor’s degree but do not hold a Bachelor of Music degree may be required to complete a placement assessment in music theory, performance, or both.
  • Based on the assessment results, a student may be required to complete up to three prerequisite courses totaling no more than six semester credits. Prerequisite courses are additional to the 38 credits required for the MCM degree and do not count toward degree completion.
  • Students who previously completed equivalent prerequisite coursework may request a prerequisite waiver by submitting official academic records and the required University documentation.

Graduation Requirements

To qualify for the Master of Church Music degree, candidates must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Credit Hours: Complete all required courses and earn 38 semester credits.
  • Minimum WJU Credits: Complete at least 31 semester credits through Washington Jabez University.
  • Minimum Enrollment: Complete at least four regular semesters in the MCM program.
  • Minimum GPA: Maintain a cumulative WJU GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Major Applied Performance: Earn a grade of B or higher in the major applied-performance area.
  • Comprehensive Examination: Pass the MCM oral Comprehensive Examination.
  • Graduation Recital / Project: Complete the required two-credit Graduation Recital or approved project.
  • Exit Interview: Complete an exit interview with designated faculty.
  • General Requirements: Complete all other University graduation requirements.
  • Clearance: Complete all financial and administrative requirements, including applicable published fees.
